I tried to apply some new concepts this morning in my sprints, and I can say that I’m slowly starting to connect the dots with what’s going on with my left leg.
More specifically, I just uncovered how my pelvic floor doesn’t connect properly to the head of my left femur, which is creating a “leak” in the integrity of the posterior chain of my leg.
I’m haven’t solved the problem 100% yet because I sometimes have a hard time to replicate the right connections… but I’m on to something and It’s exhilarating, so felt like sharing it.
But, there’s a few things to keep in mind with what I said:
I’ve been relentlessly trying to crack my dysfunctions for about 7 years, and there’s simply NO WAY that I could’ve been aware of this amount of nuance if I had started with those concepts and hadn’t covered the basics first…. And I don’t think I’m unique in that sense.
Therefore, to anyone tempted to dive in very abstract and vague concepts, know this:
It’s totally useless if you can’t master the basics repetitively.
I’ve been focusing SOLELY on this hip problem of mine for the past 3-4 months. And by now, I’ve probably tested 80 different hypotheses to figure it out. Many people who work with me expect to have their neck, shoulder, back and knee problems solved in a few months, and, I’m going to give myself a bad promo here, but…
This is not going to happen.
Not because I’m bad at what I do, but more because it’s just not how things happen.
Can you get significant changes when it comes to pain in a matter of weeks and months?
Absolutely, and I’ve taught many people how to do it!
But…
Our dysfunctions happen on a spectrum.
Meaning that the question isn’t: “Is issue X solved or not?”
But more so: “HOW MUCH is your issue solved?”
I got myself out of my neck pain relatively quickly a few years ago, but my neck still wasn’t resilient. Meaning that on a day to day, I didn’t have any pain, but if I challenged my structure too much, it could flare up.
Here’s a visual to help you understand it…
So with that said, since it’ll likely take many years for everyone to truly figure their dysfunctions out, this is why I focus more on teaching my students HOW TO THINK than teaching them techniques.
Because for those who understand what I teach them, the concepts will stay true for the rest of their lives and they’ll be able to keep progressing even when I’m dead
