Lately, I’ve been getting many people reaching out to tell me that they had some degree of visual results, in the sense that they can position their shoulder blades, pelvis, ribcage, or whatever else correctly…
YET, they still feel clueless about how to address their problems fundamentally.
They are clueless because the only thing they’ve been taught is to “execute cues.”
So, here’s a question for you…
Do you know how to cook if the only thing you can cook is 1-2 recipes you saw in a cookbook?
Do you know how to play the piano if the only thing you can do is play 1 or 2 songs you’ve learned by heart?
Do you know how to write if you’re only good at writing a sentence you’ve memorized?
I don’t think so.
You DON’T know how to cook, play the piano or write.
Yes, you know how to play A SONG on the piano; You know how to cook A RECIPE; You know how to write A SENTENCE…
But this has nothing to do with being a musician, being a good cook or being a good writer.
Well, it’s the same thing with your body; You DON’T know how to address your issues and regenerate if the only thing you’re capable of doing is executing techniques and cues.
If this is what you’re doing, you’re missing out on many important nuances and details that you can’t get if you’re stuck in “execution mode” only.
So, for me, that’s why I am not satisfied with teaching someone how to stand straighter by giving them cues.
Yes, cues are part of the process, but I have failed if my students execute cues simply because “it’s what I tell them to do.”
In fact, if I post a nice picture online of someone standing straighter, but the person in the picture is still clueless and can’t think…
To me, that’s a failure. Not a “result”.
For me, a “result” is when I get someone to spot a problem, analyze it, dissect it, and come up with a game plan to solve it…. BY THEMSELVES.
THAT, for me, is a result.
And this will eventually ALSO yield a visual change at some point.
That said, this doesn’t go the other way around;
You can’t expect to level up mentally and get good at problem-solving simply by executing cues because this will only make you a better robot.
Now, in the end, not everyone cares to level up mentally as much as physically.
So If you’re at least aware of it and that’s what you want… that’s totally cool. Go on and execute your cues, and enjoy doing your “special” training moves.
But if you ARE looking to level up your thinking and looking for ways to navigate through your problems…
You’ll have to do a lot more thinking than simply “executing cues.”
